Forum – Sacramento’s Digital Town Square visited with a neighborhood association
leader of one of Sacramento’s original suburbs – Central Oak Park – Michael Boyd.
This is a neighborhood that has seen great changes over the decades. What are the challenges that it faces now, and what lies ahead?
There are many who feel feel that progress in the neighborhood will leave long time residents behind as victims of “gentrification”. Others want to improve the neighborhood in difficult economic times. How is this balance reached?
We talk about this and other challenges facing a neighborhood that continues to buck the odds.
Forum Note: Oak Park is a great neighborhood. Our gracious host took exception at the characterization that Oak Park was once an “African American neighborhood”. Is it now an African American neighborhood? No. But was it once? Historical data say it was. What we do agree with is that it now a diverse multicultural neighborhood rich with history and great potential.
