Celebrate New Year’s walking with the Sacramento Walking Sticks

Walking Sticks
New Years Eve Walk
As Forum – Sacramento’s Digital Town Square is largely about neighborhoods, we thought we would pass on an opportunity to enjoy the coming holiday and see some Sacramento neighborhoods up close.
Everyone’s welcome to walk in the New Year with the Sacramento Walking Sticks; both on New Year’s Eve and Day. Enjoy different 5K & 10K walk routes each day; New Year’s Eve takes in the downtown sights along with Old Sacramento’s light shows while the New Year’s Day route takes in four historic neighborhoods. The walks are untimed and noncompetitive. Children are welcome to join in; dogs can, too but they’re not allowed inside the start location which is Pioneer House.
Date:  Monday, December 31st, 5:00 to 6:00 PM start time (finish by 9:00 PM)  Starting Location: Pioneer House, Sacramento, CA (415 P Street)
Price: Free
Phone: (916) 283-4650

New Years Day Walk
You can also join the Sticks for a fresh New Year and the resolution to enjoy walking for its fun, fitness, and friendship. This walk takes you along the city streets of downtown Sacramento and by many historic sites. Enjoy a stroll along the Sacramento River, imagining the pioneers navigating it by ferry. This is a different route than that held on New Years Eve.

I’m the publicist for the Sticks and I love this write-up about our big events coming up to celebrate New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day. It’s great fun to follow the route that’s been designed and see the sights along the way ~ you’ll meet some of the nicest people, too. Don’t forget that there’s a huge fireworks display in Old Sacramento at 9:00 pm on New Year’s Eve and it’s great fun to walk over to the Promenade with other walkers and watch them go off. The Sticks are an active walking group with group walks on Tues/Thurs/Friday mornings as well as Wed night. There’s always somewhere to explore on the weekends, too; we’re inexpensive, a great workout and a great way to meet new friends.
